Electrical Technology

     Electrical Technology is a two-year course offering students the skills, knowledge, and hands-on competencies necessary to prepare them for a career as a journeyman electrician. Students work in collaboration with Carpentry, Masonry, and Computer Aided Drafting toward the completion of a local house built on-site. This program is open to juniors, seniors, and adults. The same course is taught from 2:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for adult students. 

Instructor Daniel Brown

     Mr. Brown brings over 28 years of industrial experience to his classroom. 

     As a product of this school, it is his vision to see students have a safe and successful career as an electrician, to further themselves in the industry, and to be yet another shining example of the life-changing impact that Fayette Institute of Technology can make on a student’s life.

Electrician’s Rule:

4.2. “Journeyman License”: To apply for a “journeyman electrician’s license”, a person must: (1) have at least four (4) years of experience as an apprentice electrician in performing electrical work under the direction or instruction of a master electrician; (2) or must have completed a United States Department of Labor/Bureau of Apprenticeship and training registered electrical apprenticeship program,; or (3) have completed an electrical vocational education program of at least one thousand eighty hours in length approved by the WV state Board of Education which should include an on-the-job training/work hours module, successfully passed all final written and practical testing required by the WV Department of Education, and obtained an affidavit showing competency to sit for the journeyman electrician examination from the program instructor.

Policy 2520.13 stipulates:

WVDE requirements to be eligible to sit for the Electrical Journeyman License:

1) Attain an overall grade of “B” or better in the four required state-approved CTE Electrical Technician Program of Study required courses AND the four specialization courses used to meet the 1080 hours needed to sit for the Journeyman’s License as stated in the Electrician Licensing Rules from the West Virginia State Fire Marshall’s office;

2) Attain a verified school attendance record of no more than 6 days absent in a 1 year – 1,080 hour program or 12 days absent in a two year – 1,080 hour program;

3) Earn the NCCER Core certification;

4) Earn the OSHA 10 certification;

5) Pass a minimum of TWO (2) documented drug screenings; and

6) Score at or above the Workforce Entry-Level cut score on the industry-recognized written AND performance audit.
