Pre-Engineering & Machine Tool Technology
The Pre-Engineering program offers students the opportunity to experience a wide range of topics in engineering, thus preparing the students for a two or four year college plan. The courses of this program, created by PLTW: Project Lead the Way, are designed with integrated subjects of math, science, English, engineering, and technology. Students learn the basics of measurements; 3D modeling; digital electronics; mechanics; software including, but not limited to Autodesk Inventor and Revit, RoboPro, and Multisim; educational requirements; licensing; and organizational skills that will be required for entry into this evolving field. This course is open to juniors and seniors.
Instructor Greg Urbanski
Mr. Urbanski completed his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from WVU Tech in Beckley and worked as a Mechanical Engineer in Charleston before joining the faculty at FIT.
“My goal is to make this program the best preparation possible for a Fayette County student interested in becoming an engineer or machinist, by creating both a simulated workplace that lets them learn if the trade aligns with their interests, and a challenging academic environment, focused on math and physics, that prepares them for higher education or training at the same time. I believe that engineering needs to be hands-on, and that is how I have tried to build this program as a result.”
